Founded in 1994, Focus Humanitarian Assistance (FOCUS) is an international crisis response and disaster risk management agency, and an affiliate of the broader Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).

Our mission is save lives, reduce suffering and create resilience in communities prone to man-made or natural disasters.

FOCUS provides support for emergency relief to communities suffering from natural disasters or man-made crises. FOCUS has responded to the emergency needs of communities who have suffered from the devastating effects of hurricanes, cyclones, avalanches, tsunami, flooding, earthquakes and civil instability or conflict. Central to FOCUS’ work is the aim to reduce human suffering and ensure community dignity is maintained as the aftermath of a disaster is endured.

FOCUS supports disaster risk reduction programs in areas vulnerable to natural hazards. Efforts to increase awareness of disaster risks in communities living in both urban and rural areas aim to strengthen the local capabilities of populations to be better prepared and more resilient against the natural hazards prevalent in their respective regions.

FOCUS also engages in resettlement and reintegration programmes for populations displaced by civil instability or conflict. It has supported settlement programmes for newly-arrived communities to re-establish themselves and their families with dignity, largely through its widespread volunteer network.

FOCUS is active in Central and South Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America helping at-risk communities reduce their dependence on humanitarian aid, and facilitates their transition to sustainable self-reliant, long-term development.
