Founded in 1989 by Philippe Gelinas, artistic director, l'Atelier du Conte en Musique et en Images (ACMI) has presently 15 productions to its credit and since, hs brought together more than 350000 spectators between the ages of 4 to 94 years (young audience, families and general public) in Quebec and Canada.

The artistic concept is inspired by the tones of ancient instruments (hurdy-gurdy, bow viiola, viola da gamba, violin, lute, string drum, dulcimer, crumhorn,sackbut, bagpipes, harp, recorders, Jew's harp, percussions, etc.), by the songs, as well as by the tales and legends linked to the oral traditions that were current during the Middle Ages (12th to15th centuries), the Renaissance (16th century), in so far as the arrival of the first French settlers in America (New France:  17th and 18th centuries).
