ROUGE VALLEY FOUNDATION

about

Rouge Valley Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable organization established in 1984, is dedicated to protecting, restoring and enhancing the natural and cultural heritage of the Rouge Valley. This is achieved through a variety of restoration and research projects and through educational programming.

With wide community support, the Rouge Valley Foundation restored the historic Pearse House, a century home situated on the edge of the Rouge Valley, and converted it into the Rouge Valley Conservation Centre located at 1749 Meadowvale Road, Toronto in Rouge Park, the largest urban park in North America encompassing Toronto, Markham and Whitchurch-Stouffville. The Centre opened it's doors in 1995 and is operated with the assistance of a dedicated group of volunteers.

At the Rouge Valley Conservation Centre we offer environmental children's programs including curriculum-based School Programs, Wildlife Explorers weekend children's programs & Summer Day Camp; nature interpretation in our LivingRoom interpretive centre; interpretive hikes & environmental events; conservation research & restoration.

The Rouge Valley Conservation Centre is also home to local non-profit, volunteer group Citizen Scientists. Citizen Scientists is a volunteer, not-for-profit group that focuses on ecological monitoring, environmental research, training and education. Their current monitoring and research program focuses on various ecosystems and processes (both social and ecological) throughout the Rouge River Watershed.
